The Red Bull Junior Team driver secures a new podium at the legendary Monza circuit, finishing in a worthy third place after an impressive recovery.

In Saturday’s Sprint race, he also made a remarkable comeback, although a small mistake in the final stages left him just outside the points.

"It has been a good weekend with a hard-earned podium on Sunday. Perhaps I was one lap short of fighting for second place, but moving from 13th to 3rd is a very positive result".

Pepe Martí secures a new podium in Monza and strengthens his sixth position in the F2 championship.

Pepe Martí concluded the eleventh round of the Formula 2 season at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza with a valuable podium finish. The Red Bull Junior Team driver once again showcased his determination and consistency, securing a solid third place on Sunday after an impressive recovery from 13th on the grid. With this result, Martí remains firmly in the top positions, consolidating his sixth place with 112 points with three rounds to go.

The weekend started with positive feelings during free practice, but the qualifying session proved more challenging, marked by multiple red flags that left Martí in 13th position. In Saturday’s Sprint Race, the Barcelona native made a notable recovery from the start, gaining several positions on the opening lap and demonstrating competitive pace. However, a small mistake in the final stages of the race cost him some time, preventing him from scoring points, and he finished in 9th place. Despite this, his performance highlighted the significant potential he had for the rest of the weekend.

“I’m happy with the weekend, although overall it didn’t go as we’d hoped. It all started pretty well with a good free practice on Friday, I felt quite comfortable, decent. As a team, we had areas to improve, but we were still in a competitive position. Then, qualifying was full of red flags and incidents, and we couldn’t extract the maximum potential from the car. On the last lap, we were on very competitive times, but unfortunately, there was another red flag that prevented us from completing the lap, so we ended up qualifying 13th,” says Pepe.

“In Saturday’s race, we made a good recovery. Although fewer points are awarded in the Sprint and we couldn’t score, it was a solid race. We had a good start, a decent first lap, managed to recover quite well, and finished 8th. It’s a shame I made a small mistake that cost us some positions, and we ended up just outside the points.”

On Sunday, with lower temperatures, the race was set to be unpredictable and full of variables. Starting from 13th, Pepe Martí wasted no time and quickly gained five positions at the start.

Shortly after, he showcased his great skill by navigating an incident at the first chicane, allowing him to move up into 4th place. From there, the Campos Racing driver held strong in the fight for the podium, resisting pressure from his direct rivals. In the final stages of the race, he executed a crucial overtake that secured him 3rd place. On the last lap, he even started to put pressure on the driver in 2nd, although there was no enough margin left for another attack.

“In today’s race on Sunday, it was actually a good race. From the start, I had a strong launch and moved up to 9th, gaining four positions. I had good pace and felt very comfortable overall. We moved forward and managed to navigate through all the incidents, which wasn’t easy, and little by little we found ourselves in 4th. In the final laps, I managed to make a good overtake to take 3rd place, and perhaps I was one lap short to fight for 2nd. Nevertheless, going from 13th to 3rd is a good result. Now, we focus on Baku, where we’ll aim to keep this momentum and fight for more results like this,” he concludes.

With this podium in Monza and gaining valuable experience in both races, Pepe Martí strengthens his position in the top 6 of the championship, maintaining 112 points.

Formula 2 will return in two weeks in Baku (19–21 September), before heading to the final doubleheader in Qatar and Abu Dhabi, which will mark the end of the 2025 season.
