The Barcelona-born driver wrapped up the weekend at Montmeló with a solid sixth-place finish in the Feature Race, delivering a remarkable comeback after a challenging start.

Following a tough qualifying session and a point-less Sprint Race, Martí managed to bounce back on Sunday in front of his home crowd, regaining confidence and finding positive momentum on the Catalan circuit.

"I'm a bit upset with myself, but at the same time, we've done a good job as a team and shown that we have the pace," the driver said after the race.

Pepe Martí completed a positive weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, host of the sixth round of the Formula 2 season, where the Barcelona-born driver managed to bounce back and score valuable points in front of his home crowd.

After two difficult rounds in Imola and Monaco, Martí crossed the line in sixth place in Sunday’s Feature Race, delivering a solid comeback on home soil.

Friday’s qualifying session was particularly tight. Martí finished 11th, just 15 thousandths of a second off tenth place, which would have secured him pole position for Saturday’s Sprint Race due to the reverse-grid format.

“Friday was tough. It was a combination of small details that ended up costing us a lot of opportunities. I made a mistake in the penultimate corner on my first flying lap, and the second one just wasn’t good enough. We should have done a better job,” the young driver admitted.

On Saturday, Martí made a strong start in the Sprint Race and showed competitive pace. However, the appearance of a Safety Car disrupted the team’s strategy.“I asked to box, but the team decided to stay out. I’m 99% sure that pitting at that moment would have put us in a position to win. It was a shame because we threw away the chance to win another home Grand Prix,” he lamented.

The recovery came on Sunday. Starting from P11, Martí drove a smart and aggressive race, overtaking five rivals and running as high as fourth before tyre degradation and alternative strategies influenced the final order.

“Starting from 11th and finishing sixth was no easy task. We got off the line well and tried to make up positions with a consistent strategy. At one point, we were running fourth, but the drivers who stopped later benefited from the lack of a Safety Car. In the end, the tyres couldn’t hold on any longer. Still, I’m pleased with the comeback. At the same time, I’m a bit frustrated because with a slightly better qualifying — not even pole, just a top 5 or top 10 — we could’ve definitely fought for the win today,” Martí explained.

The result is a much-needed boost for Martí and his Campos Racing team, who are looking to carry this momentum into the coming rounds.“Looking ahead to the Red Bull Ring and Silverstone, we just need to make that small step forward in qualifying, and we’ll be in the fight at the front,” the Red Bull Junior Team driver concluded.
