Pepe’s best result in the Formula E World Championship.
A comeback from fifteenth on the grid.
Pepe Martí secured the best result of his still young career in the Formula E World Championship in Monaco. The CUPRA KIRO driver produced a spectacular comeback of 12 positions — starting from fifteenth on the grid — to cross the line in third place and claim his first podium in the all-electric category.
The Spaniard arrived at the Monaco E-Prix aiming to improve on his previous best result in the championship. And he achieved it at a venue that already holds special memories for him, having previously tasted victory on the streets of the Principality with his FIA Formula 3 Championship win.
The race, shaped by the Pit Boost strategy — the mandatory stop to recharge 10% of the battery — and a single six-minute Attack Mode, began very positively for Pepe Martí.
From the opening laps, he showed impressive pace and, before the safety car appeared on lap four, had already climbed to twelfth position.
Far from settling there, Martí continued to make up places and moved into ninth on lap 14, just before the pit window opened. The Spanish driver and his CUPRA KIRO team opted to extend the stint until lap 20, a strategy that proved decisive: he rejoined in seventh place and with a pace clearly superior to that of his direct rivals.
In the decisive stages of the race, Pepe Martí activated his Attack Mode and completed a memorable comeback. Combining a series of overtakes with several incidents between rival drivers that he capitalised on perfectly, the CUPRA KIRO driver eventually secured a brilliant fourth place on track which, following a post-race penalty for another competitor, was converted into third — his best result so far in the Formula E World Championship.
In Sunday’s qualifying session, Pepe missed out on the Duels by just 0.028 seconds. Even so, he managed to qualify inside the top 10 for the first time in a grid as competitive as Formula E’s, once again confirming the strong progress he had shown throughout the weekend in Monaco.
Pepe made an excellent start and spent much of the race running with the leading group. However, an incident with another driver on the climb towards La Rascasse ultimately ended his chances and forced him to retire from the race prematurely.
With this podium finish, Pepe Martí has now scored points in six of the nine races held so far this season, underlining the impressive progress he is making in his rookie year.
The next round will take place in Sanya over the weekend of 20 June.
