Pepe Martí wins the Sprint Race in Spielberg, claiming his second victory of the year at Red Bull’s home circuit.

On Sunday, he delivered a stunning comeback, gaining seven positions on the opening lap and scoring points once again after battling for a podium finish

This isn’t down to luck — we’re working incredibly hard and hope to keep going in this direction,” Martí said.

Pepe Martí capped off a brilliant weekend in Spielberg with two standout performances in Round 7 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, underlining his strong form at this crucial stage of the season.

The Red Bull Junior Team driver impressed on Saturday with a flawless start from fifth on the grid, moving up to second by the end of the opening lap. A multi-car incident brought out a red flag on lap two, but after the restart Martí remained at the front. With nine laps to go, he regained use of the DRS, overtook the race leader, and defended his position masterfully to secure his second win of the year — a highly celebrated triumph at Red Bull’s home circuit.

On Saturday, we got off to a great start and managed the tyres well, taking advantage of others’ mistakes. It was a strong race with a final result that feels just as big as the achievement of securing my second win of the season.”.

On Sunday, Martí once again showcased his talent on track: starting from 12th on the grid, he surged up to fifth by the end of the opening lap thanks to a spectacular getaway. An early pit stop strategy on lap 7 appeared to be working as planned, and for much of the race he remained in contention for a podium finish.

However, contact with another driver led to a 10-second time penalty applied after the chequered flag. Although he crossed the line in 4th place, the penalty officially dropped him to 7th. A subsequent penalty for a rival later promoted him to 6th. In total, Martí collected 18 valuable points from a very solid weekend.

"The grid penalty we received for the Feature Race due to a mistake in qualifying really disrupted our plans — instead of starting from ninth, we had to start twelfth. I don’t think it had too much of an impact on the final result in this case, but it’s obviously something you never like to see".

"As for today’s race, we had an incredible start — from 12th to 5th on the opening lap. It couldn’t have gone any better. After that, we did what we could throughout the race. I made a few mistakes, and the main one was the contact with another driver, which led to a penalty that ultimately cost us a podium. It’s a real shame, because we could have finished third today. That said, we still picked up some good points."

In summary, the Spanish driver expressed his satisfaction: "Overall, I’m quite pleased. This isn’t down to luck — we’re working very hard and hope to keep this momentum going, aiming to replicate these results in the upcoming rounds. The weekend as a whole was positive; we scored points again and felt competitive and strong."

The next round of the championship will take place next weekend, from 5th to 7th July, at the historic Silverstone circuit, where Martí hopes to continue this positive momentum.
