The Campos Racing driver endured a difficult Friday in qualifying, which forced him to start from 19th on the grid in both of the weekend’s races.

In Saturday’s Sprint Race, Martí impressed with a brilliant start, gaining eight positions on the opening lap to move up to 11th. On Sunday, he delivered another solid performance, climbing through the field once again to claim two valuable points thanks to a strong comeback drive.

“We made two excellent starts and, in the end, managed to score. These points may seem few, but they’re important.”

Pepe Martí wrapped up a weekend full of effort, composure, and strong comebacks at the British Grand Prix of Formula 2. After a challenging qualifying session on Friday, in which neither he nor the Campos Racing team managed to find the right pace, the Red Bull Junior Team driver was forced to start from 19th on the grid in both races. Nevertheless, he emerged as the driver who gained the most positions across the weekend.

In Saturday’s Sprint Race, Martí made an electric start, climbing from 19th to 11th in just one lap with a bold and decisive move. Although his pace tailed off in the second half of the race, he held position to the chequered flag. A post-race penalty for a rival later promoted him to 10th place, though just outside the points-paying top eight.

Sunday’s Feature Race was shaped by unpredictable weather. Rain caused a delayed start and brought strategic uncertainty throughout the race. In these ever-changing conditions, Martí once again showed maturity and adaptability, avoiding trouble in a tricky opening phase. Starting 19th on the grid, he fought through the field to finish 9th, scoring two valuable points in an otherwise difficult weekend.

It’s been a tough weekend. We expected more than just coming away with two points. Friday was particularly difficult — we lacked pace — but considering that, I think the races themselves went quite well.

We made two spectacular starts: on Saturday, going from 19th to 11th on the first lap, and on Sunday, from 19th to 13th in mixed conditions. That gave us the chance to fight for points. In Saturday’s Sprint Race we made one or two mistakes, perhaps a couple of overtaking attempts that were a bit too ambitious, but the pace was good and we were close to breaking into the top eight.

Today, on Sunday, we scored two points which, although they might seem few, are important. It’s a shame because it feels like we’re losing ground to the championship leader, but nothing has been decided yet. There are still six rounds to go and we have to keep working. We know the others are improving too, so we need to keep pushing and stay focused on our approach.

As a result, Pepe Martí now sits 8th in the overall standings with 69 points. Despite some struggles in qualifying this season, the Spanish driver continues to show consistency on Sundays and an impressive ability to charge through the field.

After back-to-back rounds in Spielberg and Silverstone, Formula 2 now heads to the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit – a track known for its elevation changes, high-speed sections and unpredictable weather. Round nine takes place from 25 to 27 July, followed immediately by the Hungarian Grand Prix. Another key double-header awaits Martí and Campos Racing.
